Adrian's Boy Bands Archive

Ever since I was a lad I've enjoyed 'pop' music, usually just because it was fun, nothing heavy or serious, just easy music to have a good time to. Although I didn't realise it immediately another attraction was the fact that often the bands were pretty cute too!

From the very start of popular music, good looking boys were always at the forefront. For me it started in the seventies, the days of the Osmonds, the Jackson 5 and David Cassidy. They may not have been called 'Boy Bands' back then, but that was what they were. On my Hidden World of Adrian site I pay homage to these wonderful bands, both old and new, and if you've not been there yet I suggest you pay a visit soon - you'll find the link at the bottom of this page.

Here in the Archive I'll be storing some of the best images from the Hidden World of Adrian and adding in a few extra pictures from my own collection and where possible giving you the chance to hear what the boys actually sound like. OK, I know that their music is often not the most important factor for a Boy Band, but some are actually quite good!

Take That Banner

In recent years the defining Boy Band was Take That. Despite the fact that young girls (and boys) have been screaming their hearts out for cute popsters since the birth of the "teenager", these five lads from Manchester were about the first to be identified and labelled as a "Boy Band".

An early shot of the band, sorry can't tell the year - does anyone know?

Kavana Banner

One of the hottest pop properties at the moment is this cute 19 year old Mancunian. Managed by one of the masters of the Boy Band art, Nigel Martin-Smith, one time manager of no less than the Boy Band, Take That, he has quickly become one of the our favourites. He also has great ambitions, to be taken seriously as a singer-songwriter, time will tell, but for the moment he's pleasant enough to listen too ... and very nice to look at!

Earlier this summer, he appeared at a local radio roadshow here in Bristol, so I had the chance to see the lad in action. And he's good, sings the songs well and works the crowd very professionally - it's not hard to see why the girls love him. Anyway, being a small local event, I had the chance to get my camera in close, and here, for the first time in public, are a couple of the shots I took at the show.

Believe me though, it was hard work! On the one hand trying to keep position amidst a crowd of noisy, exuberant and, it has to be said, downright aggressive, young girls. And then there was the constant dilemma of whether to concentrate on the photos or just stand and watch the boy perform - it was tough, but I reckon I got some good shots, I hope you like them.
